This week I had a lovely shopping day with my friends Quin and Mike.
I picked up some drugstore and high-end makeup while grabbing a birthday gift for my dad, another birthday gift for a friend and a Christmas gift for my mom. I've been getting some of my holiday shopping done early and I am quite proud of myself. I had such a blast shopping and then we went to this British Pub and sat outside because the weather was just gorgeous and M.A.C Cosmetics was having a party in the street that we could hear/sort of see (and had already visited)! Frankly we all felt like we were on an episode of "The Hills" while bumping into people we knew and having an all around chic day at Town Square in Las Vegas. With all this fabulous-ness I have managed to get some drugstore goodies this week, on this day and a couple other occasions. (PS, I'll be talking about the high-end things soon.)
Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter I got this because I did a smokey eye and I wanted a light wash of color on my lips and my lips have been a touch dry because of the flip flopping warm then cold then warm again weather we've been having. I don't think my skin knows what's happening. I normally go for a full on colored lip but I like to mix it up every so often. For me this is better than a gloss because it's pretty much a lip balm with a tint and shine and no stickiness! Nice for winter when I am more likely to do a smoked out look and heavier eye liner. I got mine in 085 Sugar Plum. I quite like the packaging as well for $6.49 at Target.
Soap & Glory A Great Kisser Sticking with the lip nourishment I picked this up because I knew I was getting a retro matte from Mac (in Flat Out Fabulous) and I like to hydrate before I apply any matte color an hour or so in advance. I may have also seen this when in line at Sephora and just thought "Yes, I'll have this as well!" and tossed it in my basket. I like the glossy finish and the smell of sweet peaches is nice on my lips. I normally don't really care for flavors/scents in my lip products other than mint for some reason, I'm okay with this one though. I've felt a difference since using this and give it a thumbs up for $10.00 at Sephora.
Maybelline Fit Me Concealer I have a bit of a complex with my under eye circles and the more fair I am the more I feel like they're visible and I don't tan, so any kiss the sun would've given me this summer is long gone since I didn't spend much time outside this summer. I am always on the hunt for some magic concealer that will change my life...or at least my dark circles. I search high-end and low. I like this and do feel like it helps but is in no way life altering, perhaps that's a lot to ask of a concealer anyway. The coverage is good but just not as strong as my purple under eyes. I like it for a base for my Benefit Erase Paste and felt I saw good results that way with Fit Me in number 10 Light. $5.49 at Target
Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner Pencil I've needed a new nude liner for my waterline and found this one to be a-maz-ing! I seem to have a watery waterline when I wear specific eyeliners and this one stays put. I couldn't say better things about this product! It very easily kicks some of the high-end pencil's metaphorical behinds and this glides on just as well if not better. The pigmentation is on point and I would buy this in Nude and all of the Scandaleyes Kohl Kajal pencil shades. $4.49 at Ulta.
Maybelline Volume Express Mega Plush Mascara has been a favorite for a while now.I love the brush and the formula is nice. I tend to reach for this baby when I'm doing a natural eye. I find the finished lashes end up not looking super "mascara-ed up" but rather naturally, perfectly, full. I have the color Brown/Black, keeping with the natural look it is quite close to my hair color. I just like this so very much. $7.49 at Ulta
Rimmel: Stay Matte Pressed Powder I don't know how I haven't tried this sooner, especially since the lovely Tanya Burr has raved about it so much on her YouTube and blog and I am a big fan. (If you haven't checked her out do yourself a favor and click the link...after you've read this of course.) This product is beautiful, the only thing that could make it better is if the packaging was a bit more fancy, but at the end of the day you don't wear the packaging do you? Also you end up paying for pretty packaging and I payed $4.99 at Target so I'm happy enough with that. The mineral formula sets makeup perfectly and also helps prevent shine and you can use it as a quick touch up too, if needed. I found this absolutely made my pores appear smaller and who doesn't like that. I would repurchase this and recommend if you haven't tried this yet and you like a matte finish, to run out and grab it, you won't regret this buy.
Clockwise from the top left:
1) Rimmel: Scandaleyes Kohl Kajal Pencil in Nude
2) Maybelline: Fit Me Concealer in 10 Light
3) Rimmel: Stay Matte Pressed Powder in 003 Natural
4) Soap & Glory: A Great Kisser
5) Revlon: ColorBurst Lip Butter in 085 Sugar Plum
Hope you found these affordable product suggestions helpful. I honestly haven't been drugstore shopping in a while and I forgot how fun it can be. Sometimes I find myself in a high-end buying mode and my wallet needs a break every so often and I re-discover what products I've been forgetting about/missing out on.
