Kat Von D for Sephora Re-launch

Kat Von D had hinted at a re-launch of her cosmetics line sold at Sephora
a few months ago, she posted a picture to her Instagram of four packaging options taking a poll with her fans on which should be chosen. Famed for her amazing tattoo artistry she also is known for having a unique style, interior design aesthetic and beautiful makeup. So it was natural for her to create and launch a makeup line for Sephora in 2008. She has released a new collections each year for the brand. Now, six years later, Kat Von D for Sephora will be re-launching the line. I have looked and unsuccessfully been able to find anything on whether or not a reformulation, color and texture range changes or expansions will also be a part of the relaunch. But it is clear that packaging will be taking on a whole new look.

The excitement I felt about this was quite high as KVD's lipstick are some of my
absolute favorite colors, packaging and formulation. These true to color, long lasting lipsticks are what I am always scanning Sephora for, to see if there are new colors, new textures, new anything really. I am a lip color junkie and these are at the top of my recommendation list. I have most of her lipsticks that would suit my skin tone and I am hoping that the re-launch is only going to heighten my love for these lipsticks.
The metallics go on smooth and have a satin feel on the lips. I wasn't sure when I first bought this shade Adore if I would like it, but after a few wears I knew I wanted another. I wear this as a pin-up lip with a twist.
Which leads to Oh My Goth. This deep metallic purple looks great with a smokey eye for a vampy night out or with very minimal makeup for a runway look.

The satin finishes are my absolute favorite. They are extremely long lasting, non-drying, and are formulated with vitamins A, C and E to feed the lips with antioxidants and to be anti-aging.
My favorite nude I have ever used is Lovecraft. The perfect "My lips, but better." look. Goes on so smoothly and stays put.
Coral Castle is a peachy-coral with a light shimmer to it. Lovely in the summer when I have a kiss of sun on my skin and a nearly bare face.
Sometimes you just want to harness your inner Barbie or Katy Perry with a bubble gum pink lip. The shade Backstage Bambi is just that. It looks fab on most skin tones and is a gorgeous pop of color.
The shade that started this love affair, Stiletto, is the most lovely shade of orange-red. It is a classic pin-up shade of 50's housewife charm. This color is almost gone and I suspect a repurchase may be happening before the re-launch of the line.
Hellbent fits the bill when wanting the perfect shade of red. It is a deep, rich true red. This shade is the perfect crimson/blood red. It reminds me of something from the set of True Blood. This shade can make you feel dangerous or it can make you feel like Snow White, depending on the rest of your makeup.
And the truly gothic color out of the bunch has got to be Rosary. This deep purple/raisin shade adds a touch of mistery and reminds me of 1920's glam flappers.

When I was swatching these Hellbent rolled off my table and I didn't realize it until it was too late and my lighting was all wrong. So sorry. Oh, to be a flawed human...grr! As you can see the shades are very true to color and it really looks as it does in the tube.

The things I'll miss about the old packaging? Well I really love that I can see the color of the lipstick inside without opening the tube.

What does the new packaging look like? Well if you already follow Miss. Von D on any social media you probably already know, but just in case I have included a screen cap of that final design that will be replacing the former rose design.
What do you think of this new look? I quite like it. The attention to detail is well noted, from the elaborate matte black geometric tube design, to KVD being monogrammed into the lipstick itself. I can't  tell if this new look will take up more of less room in my handbag or if it will make a notable difference at all. I am excited to see this re-launch in person, but we will all be waiting until fall 2014 to be able to pick one of these lovely bullets up at Sephora. Currently these babies go for $19. and hopefully they won't be going up at all in price.

I hope you are as excited as I am for the re-launch of Kat Von D's lipsticks.
