Well...there's a new mascara in town and she's got a power-house formula backing her and the
whole beauty world was ready! Of course I'm talking about the Too Faced Better Than Sex Waterproof Mascara. My favorite mascara is the original formula; it makes my lashes full, it has that clumpy in a good way while still being fluffy, it's very black. So you can imagine when I heard that this waterproof formula was in the works I was thrilled and also unsure as to whether it could hold up against its predecessor.
Let's just say it THE PACKAGING!!! A lovely silvery/blue with raised water droplets. I can not tell you how much I adore the look, feel, everything about this packaging. They hit it out of the park with this one, but the formula, well, that I was unsure of...at first.
Day one I tried the mascara, set my makeup with MUFE Mist & Fix and the next thing you know I have gobs of black under my eyes (before work). Horror struck I quickly tried to fix the mess and luckily I was able to.
Then I decided to give it another go as us beauty bloggers must press on to give a well rounded review. Of course I opted not to set my makeup with a spray again in fear of the black mess. My mascara did not end up all under my eyes but it did have me wondering, how could a waterproof mascara do so poorly with a setting spray. I had to give the spray a second go. This time nothing. Now, I did wait a while before spraying to see if it was a formula that needed to set first. It does.
This mascara is a bit of a different kind of texture, it stays more moist (Sorry if the word sent you into a fit). What I mean is that most WP mascaras dry very quickly and have a stiff texture once dry. This formula stays more hydrated. In fact, I feel like it drys slower than the original formula. As I have kept using it I feel it's gotten better, less wet, and less prone to smudging. There seem to just be some mascaras that need to breathe. Another good thing to note is that you don't need the jaws of life to get it off you lashes. I used my normal makeup remover and it didn't take too much to get it off.
I'm so glad that I ended up liking this mascara. It has that same great look as the original and holds a better curl. It does, after about 10 hours, smudge under the eyes like a normal mascara. I noticed that it doesn't leave my lashes feeling as dry as some other waterproof formulas do because it has hydrating ingredients. This is probably why it also doesn't dry as fast.
Over all I am quite pleased! I think if you're going to wear this somewhere like a wedding, where happy tears could be shed, I would wear it for a week or two before so that it has that time to become less wet and perform better.
So what do you think? Have you tried it? Tell me in the comments and let me know if any of
the details I noticed would effect whether you would like the mascara or not! I'd also love to know what your favorite waterproof mascara is!
